Whilst researching something else entirely I came across this little ditty on youtube of a young lad using an electric saw on the Heath during the weekend where I work.

Its not riviting watching but fascinating that someone would put a yubetube vid together on it but also that passers by are seemingly oblivious to the fact that an amateur is using a saw in a public open space with absolutely no ppe :001_rolleyes:

Saw trousers will not stop a saw until you have done serious damage to your leg.

Most PPE only helps reduce injury, they rarely prevent it completely.

I put a flat out revving 036 into an an old pair of husky trousers with log inside; killed the saw immediately and long before 3 of the old 8 layers of BM.

I'm not getting into an argument, but many people have suffered serious lacerations, through their trousers.

I've done that too John, with a 260 into an old pair of Hiflex.

Clogged the chain, but not before it had cut 2" into a solid Oak log.

2 blokes I have worked with have escaped without a scratch after catching their type C's with a running-down saw however.

Was the worst thing I've heard on the radio for ages, total idiots talking rubbish and being of no help at all, but it was what 99% of the country will have wanted to hear and they will have forgotten it by now anyway.

ALL that was really said was "chainsaws are dangerous". If the public continue to think that then thats fine for us. It really doesnt matter that she said some saws are designed to be used one handed, we know waht she meant, they are one handed of necessary but there was no point her talking about work position and all that stuff.
