Not too impressed with the first question about having a three year old walk up behind you....

Well I must say I agree with most of the posts on here. It could have been a lot better and a lot more informative than it was.

Seemed that there was conflicting answers over ppe, one saying there is none that will stop a chainsaw and the other saying there are trousers that will bounce a chainsaw off them. :confused1:

That small and IMO pointless bit of radio was both confusing and well and truly uninformative.

So when someone uses scaffolding around a tree near power lines and kills themselves and possibly someone else it will be ok as they said so on the radio.

And I'm not sure about anyone else but it's a bit damn cold to wear swimming trunks to work. Plus I'm sure I would get some good laughs in them.....

I have just listen'd to jeremy vine and i think back to what i was told one day in the past and that is the machine is only as safe as the operator i know some on here will disagree with this but i think it is very true.

And make sure you have the right protection and training before you use any machinery.

The bloke that was dismantling an 80ft tree with scaffolding and ladders and pulling the branches off with his car was surely a joke? Scary.

Surely everyone's used a motor to pull sticks over? I used ladders just strop onto tree and even one did a bizarre job at the top of scaffolding... As someone said a 70 something year old retired blokes 80ft could be a 20ft tree to a pro...

just listened to the show. what do chainsaw trousers do if it does not stop the chain unlike saying nothing will stop a saw. still makes joe think twice of going around with a chainsaw. as for climbing a tree with a ladder and scaffold say no more. shame they did not have a lecturer from one of the land base colleges to talk. maybe a better picture would have been portrayed. the speaker was not brill on phone. and could of made more of all the gear needed to take trees down when up a tree. using a harness and using saw with one hand. did not come over very well.

Whilst researching something else entirely I came across this little ditty on youtube of a young lad using an electric saw on the Heath during the weekend where I work.

Its not riviting watching but fascinating that someone would put a yubetube vid together on it but also that passers by are seemingly oblivious to the fact that an amateur is using a saw in a public open space with absolutely no ppe :001_rolleyes:

Saw trousers will not stop a saw until you have done serious damage to your leg.

Most PPE only helps reduce injury, they rarely prevent it completely.
