Anyone go out feed the birds in garden

Made some fatcakes with lard, seed and sunflower hearts this morning which will be getting put out at work in the morning.

Reckon you're right, Jon. The owner's mother lives in the main house on the estate where I work and she enjoys seeing the wildlife outside the windows.

I've noticed though with so many birds feeding that Kestrels and Sparrowhawks hang around too

 

For my location here in the States it is Coopers hawks. But I don't worry there are plenty of House sparrows to feed him/her.

Believe me mate, they do all right where I work . I'm in the lucky position of working for a family who are very pro-wildlife and open to different ways of encouraging and supporting a variety of species. It's great to have a free hand with regards to habitat creation, including dead tree retention.

We feed all year round as well, had a hell of a selection, yesterday. Blue, Great Tits, Goldfinches, Greenfinches, Chaffinch, Long tailed tits, Robin, Blackbirds, Wrens, Woodpecker, Sparrow, Nuthatch, even a couple of Fieldfare's. And a couple of cock pheasants, who will now be on the menu later in the week.

Should add, well away from the shooting coverts, so fair game in my book.

Yup, just been and topped up the fat balls, we have a regular great spotted woodpecker, lots of coal tits, blue tits.

yes feeders and bird boxes in the garden and a hedge hog sleeping in a rabbit hutch. i have spent the weekend in my shed with my daughter building a bird table for her school. we just have to paint it now.
