Sub 7.5 tonne van best for towing

Iveco daily would be worth a look. Used to drive a 140hp 5tonner that was down plated to 3.5t with a 3T trailer all over the UK and it never bothered it, even with the van up to weight as well.

 

When empty and without the trailer it was fairly rapid too.

 

the 170hp must have been a bit of a beast.

Plate on door jamb or under bonnet or both.

That should be the "gospel"

GVM = 2nd largest

GTM = largest

from recall, sommat like above.

anyway the numbers should make sense.

Largest number - 2nd largest number = tlr weight

I know the 2.3mtr width limit was done away with, making all widths 2,55mtr, this was to bring us into line with europe,

with a sawmill its difficult to determine where the "trailer" stops and the sawmill starts, so with a bit of "clever" paper work and drawings it would be possible to go right up to the maximum train length for a large mill, its all about how things are interpreted

Thanks for all of the info. I am still speaking to the manufacturer of the sawmill to try to get him to construct it with a fold down track section. Doing that would essentially mean that it could be towed on a normal licence.

 

Speaking of licences, if I were to go for a C licence, would my +E entitlement on my B licence carry through? I did my 'trailer test' a couple of years ago and was wondering whether I would have to do it again for a C class vehicle.

As u know you'd still need a c licence but have you thought about a pinzgauer 716 P90? Can and will tow 5ton but is about 3.5t veh, when not towing the mill around you could use it (when you fab a box tipper) transport lengths or logs etc if you sell them.

Other mod site ive seen havent any apart from one but its been made out as an ambulance and would take to much to convert.
