Well I know that he's never phoned the local council to check for TPO, he's admitted this.

You may well be right, but If you knew that information wouldn't you put me at ease by telling me this, or showing me the documents?

I can live with not working for you mate, I know I'm checking for the right reasons.

The story seems to be changing, early you did not tell us "he had told you he had not checked"

When he told you this did you ask why??

I agree with Steve

Call the LPO in your own name and ask the question, they are pretty helpful in our experience. The duty planning officer should be able to check there and then. You could ask if there any restrictions on trees on the estate in general if you want to keep a bit of distance.

IMO you need to know the facts, then deal with them.

Hope this helps, good question to ask.

It's changed because I bit my tongue, because I thought you were originally probing to get him in trouble.

He cut down a tree a while back at a different site, before I had qualified, I asked him if he checked for a TPO, he said "No, I probably should have"...If he doesn't check when he's doing the felling, I find it unlikely he'll check for me, but you're right, I am assuming, the whole estate could be clear.

But that was the purpose of this post, he hasn't outright told me whether in this particular incidence he's checked or not and I wanted to gauge how people would handle it as to alleviate any possible trouble for myself.

Ok thanks, I'll take the number with me on Monday and do it myself.

Dead easy! Just ring the local planning department and ask them about any restrictions, if there are any then refuse to do the job if there isnt then crack on.

No need to lie or be underhanded :001_cool:

Get the number for the LA office of the TO and check on Monday morning before starting the saw. Remember you will need the address and/or postcode of the site you are working. Its a simple phone call to find out and always check for Conservation Areas as well as TPO's.
