Next time a customer ask's why firewood is so dear I will show them this, 16 nails, staples and barb wire in a 1 mtr section, granted this was the base but there had been others further up the trunk. I gave up cutting in the end as every cut was another sharpen.

Ha, funny that. about two hours ago I was taking the remains of an old Ash trunk out of a hedge.

Wire clearly obvious going in one side and out the other.

 

Trying to judge it just right so I cut between the wires...

 

...then I hit a stone inside the trunk....

Looks like poplar would have give up logging the first one I hit.

Had similar grief myself once in a big oak trunk I had been given,it was about 4ft dia with wire embedded at least 1ft inside! how long ago was that nailed on I wonder?

late father in law was cutting some beech in wood cut it down logging it up sparks flew out chain was blunt. in the end we split the trunk with wedges embedded in trunk was a 9mm bullet from a german aircraft strafed the woods as thought it was a army camp. it was in the first world war. did not do the chain much good.

fitted a new 20inch chain on mi husky first cut into a beech trunk that was 2ft dia just got about half way saw jumped chain brake kicked in

brake off started to cut again saw was vibrating stopped looked at chain there was a whole chisel missing off the chain! ripped completely off!!!!

i had hit a piece of half inch round bar which must have been used as a stake it ran about 3ft up the trunk!!!!

was not happy!!!!
