The class system is alive and well as far as I can see but the worst thing is snobbery. Ie: people who aspire to be at the top of the ladder but are still climbing it furiously.

.

.

Don't you think snobbery works both ways???

I've met plenty of working class snobs, who think they are better than the rich??

The days are long gone when it was them and us.

Not around us it hasn't

I'd agree with that I think.

But what defines each step of the ladder?

I personally don't aspire to any particular step

But does it matter???

A mate of mine who I go walking with sold a business last year for 50 Million and he still works for said business, but he's a great guy, no different than any of the other lads that walk with us, so does it really matter???

No it does not matter. I play cards every Sunday (for a few quid) with two old boys who have got more money than you and me could count if we stayed up all night. It's not what you have got it's who you are.

You shouldn't confuse class and wealth.

Class is an irrelevance these days and it makes me laugh when you hear people from abroad saying things like 'in England where they have the class system'. We have wealthy people, we have poor people and we have people who are somewhere in between. I don't think this correlates very strongly with anything that would be described as class.

Dream on! your mates down the pub are rich but nowhere near in the class of the elite. A million these days is a 4 bed detached in a leafy suburb somewhere in the SE

Yeah your probably right there, but compared to me they are leagues above me if class exist,s. i drive a hilux & peugeot 307 they have an aston martin, jag etc,and never look down on me, i know what you mean , the super elite ,75m houses etc in london, but i never encounter such people

No doubt your mate is a great guy, a chap I work for has a portfolio of several billion in property another recently sold a household name company for 500 million. On the outside they are both really great guys, both pay up on time etc and will make you a cup of tea, and as far as i'm aware haven't done anything underhand to get in such a position.

However how many of the mega wealthy, with friends in very high places can say the same. The bible says ''it's far easier for a camel to pass through an eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven'' no i'm not overly religious but its a good saying.

We only have to look at who got us in the mess that we are in now and see the wealth they still have or the more wealth they have accumulated to see that, there wealth is mine and your children's debt.

I'm a socialist but that doesn't mean I'm against wealth, just as long as its all fully legit, sadly these days this is so rarely the case

Sure, there are plenty of rich guys who are just as normal as us, but there are plenty more who are well up themselves.

The problem is that its difficult to tell a rich guy. Many appear rich and act upper class. They have all the trimmings of class and wealth, posh motors, boats, houses, clothes, holidays etc. This sort often disrespect others.

But many of these actually have no money, its all borrowed and some will never pay it off.

I have nothing posh, but what i do have is mine, so I do not feel inferior to the show offs.

I do however respect the wealthy who respect me in return.
