Looks about half hours work for a competent tree surgeon... If it was mine I would shorten the limb top left to bring in with the newly developing crown if you don't feel comftable getting out that far and there is no decent pruning points drop it out altogether .. Shorten the limb on the right that sticks out and major dead wood ... The tree looks like a classic example of retrenching itself naturally and doing a good job ... So the above work would only Really be for aesthetics. Have fun and be safe.

People keep saying "trees", its one tree, just two pic's, one winter, one summer.

His intentions are ongoing. Paragraph two quote

"I have a large garden with many mature trees that have been in need of a bit of TLC over the years "

He aims to be independent on an ongoing basis.

True, but people were saying "they look like", so they clearly thought the pic's were of two different trees.

I can' t help but be pulled both ways on theis one! Respect for the nerve and bravery that Charlie has, however, you said it yourself - a bit cheeky asking us to advise you how to do it!?

My true thoughts are you are going a step too far - it takes quite a bit of experience, to gain the knowledge required to do work like this, correctly and safely.

Fair enough, but you would expect people on a tree orientated forum to work out that, no challenge just clarifying in case you had missed it. :001_smile:
