no worries david, any ideas of what might have been causing the decay. no signs of fruiting bodies on the floor of anywhere on the stem.

 

would this have been one of or maybe the reason it finally died?

I think it looks like the kind of dysfunction associated with Armillaria.

Shame there's no history of fruiting been noted over the last few years.

Do we take it there hasn't been any mycelial sheets noted under the bark so far, is that right?

Its been surveyed by a very professional company on a regular basis the owner doesnt no why its died though so i gather there hasnt been any history of fruiting bodies found. I havent peeled back any bark but there hasnt been any sign of anything unusal it patches of bark that got removed while lowering etc.

Yep worked out perfectly in the end i was worried on sunday when i went to go set up the ropes ready for the monday start, it was then i finally desided on a crane

Do you work out the weight and length of each section of trunk so determining we're to cut so that the crane is working within SWL or is a guestamate using your experience from previous jobs bearing in mind different weights for different trees?
