Stick your hardwood where the sun don't shine

Been burning some Beech I have been seasoning under cover for two years. Burned it for the last two month, not too bad but can only get the heat out of it if it's cut into small bits, good for over night burns.

So today I went down to the yard and got myself some nice leylandii

Yehaaaa, stoves glowing like a good un and only opened the vent halfway, kettles steaming away on top in minutes and I,ve had to move the settee away a little more. Just need to keep an eye on the flu temp so it doesn't,t melt my chimney stack

Why people disrespect softwood is beyond me.

Softwood....it,s the future...you can stick hardwood from now on

Leylandii is shite, alright to fire up the stove with but that's about it. You'll get up every hour to load the stove whereas I'll get up every two hours with a decent bit of Ash or similar.

I'm burning Spruce at the moment and find the same, keeping the stove loaded is a constant job, otherwise you will end up relighting it. :001_rolleyes:

Leylandii is the future Mick...

You just need an efficient stove, you know...like a "Yorkshire" stove from Dunsley in Holmfirth

dunsleyheat website - Multifuel stoves

We Yorkshire folk know how to make em. Just like Jon knows how to make good Cider :001_smile:

Except that.....I got a better deal for a Dunsley Yorkshire stove from stoves are us, even after I turned up at Dunsleys place with a pocket full of folding.:001_huh:

It is a good stove though.

It's all I burn at home as did two generations before me burnt pretty much good thick slab wood last year...no chimney fires no gunk in chimney and nothing but toasty fires

gave up trying to "educate" customers onto softwood was raising my blood pressure too much.

We don't have enough hardwood in U.K to keep burning the stuff at this rate

Tell me about spruce! Gone in a flicker; much prefer larch, western red cedar and mac. Got some dead standing douglas coming up - any good?
