Not the right knot

Day to day I use a short rope which is the remains of my old long rope which has the spliced eye cut off. It needs a knot tying in it obviously so I use a bowline and I've always been in the habit of putting a yosemite tie off. Yesterday it slipped back through and I very nearly clipped into it. The mess wouldn't have been a problem, the chicken's would have cleaned me up!

So, my question is - is it better to just tie a bowline (without a tie off) or what other knots do people use on their main line......

hi, I was taught to use the bowline at college, always thought it a dangerous knot for climbing. Comes undone all the time!

Was shown a knot by a freelance climber 11 years ago and had no problems with it since. never knew the name of it till i looked it up recently and found it was called the "perfection knot". Its a little harder to undo if you have droped your weight on it but always does. Hope this helps.

Yosemite bowline all the way for me. It's just tidier than a bowline with a figure eight, and undoes easier than a Fishermans. Once you've clipped in just give the tail a pull to check it's the right loop. The tie off should cinch in, not the loop you're clipped in to. I've never had a problem with it.

Sorry guys, meant occasionaly comes loose. usually when scabling around a crap tree with no weight on knot. I found if the bottom loop/wrap gets nocked it starts the process of coming loose.

Feel much safer with the knot i use now

Its what you are happy with at the end of the day, its the climbers life on the line, so to speak
