While clearing up a holm oak we cut down yesterday I found this inside some included bark which I pulled apart once on the ground. Any spider enthusiasts have any idea if this is one of those false widows they're on about? I googled them and it looks very similar. Not nice to think it was inches from where my crotch was while up the tree!ImageUploadedByArbtalk1382008948.337482.jpg.ea472d94d749d8b88f9a3dd0d6bb680a.jpg

Last day of a 4 day hedge and tree bonanza. Mixed week weather wise and very sunny today. Here are se pics. The hedge was a huge overgrown conny hedge until 3 years ago when we took off about 3 meters, then this year we have taken the sides back about a meter in places, there was good growth back there so should recover ok. It's more tree like than dense like a hedge so not to dead. We have a Wellingtonia to crown lift, an Oak to dead wood, a Beech to remove and a load of hedge trimming. We had a tracked picker and 4 lads. Chipped most of the waste but I took about 31/2 cube of clipping to the tip and it was 21 quid!! Bargain!ImageUploadedByArbtalk1382027985.419667.jpg.7b8b742200800088029350326ab81e09.jpg

looks pretty good to me for the false widow, been trying to find one myself for a while now. apparently they like it inside houses or inside trees now.

Pretty sure it is!

Found dozens of them under a load of Ivy which we took off a wall.

I told the guy I was working with to watch his fingers. He didn't seem fussed until he read some horror stories the next day.

Looks like Steatoda bipunctata (sometimes known as the “rabbit hutch spider”)

Steatoda nobilis is the one with the most venom. Apparently the uks most venomousness spider.

Hodge, what did you think of the nifty. I had one in hire for a similar job and was really impressed. The engine cowling does not like branches being dropped on it

Very good, liked it a lot. Good value also. £354 for a week with delivery and collection and insurance.
