Few from earlier in week felling so edge trees and some in a steep little Gill the harvester couldn't reach down too

 

Fist time I saw a Lokomo working was on a bank bringing 7.5m douglas up backwards 5 tonne at a time, I wouldn't have dared put a tractor over the edge but would still have been cheaper winching tree lengths up.

 

Nowhere near as steep as yours but here is a picture of yesterday's milling in situ at 8 degrees slope. Risk assessment decided that an assisting line was necessary to secure power head and reduce fatigue of operator.

I was happy to be back working but productivity was low and carrying those oak 4.5m x 150mm x 50mm planks off the mill and only 20 metres up slope was wearing. I decided in 1984 there was no future in hefting wood so I bought a grapple loader.

 

I think the miller would have been better off with an 18 year old rugby player than little ole me.

Nothing too technical today, but a good test of both the 200tdi engined hilux and its newly rebuilt(but not finished)tipper body.

Id go for 300kg upwards each depending on density and moisture. Could be 500kg

The bloke doing the baling said 200-250kg a bale. I had no trouble standing them up so sounds a fair estimate to me.

They were very dry.
