Day 3 taking down this big beech. A lot had to be lowered as it was overhanging 2 houses and the road.

"You know how to operate the Hiab, don't you?"

"Errr no, not really."

"Ok, well grab it with the bucket, then boom in to snap it off and drop it in the back!"

And dec ent felling cut aswell. K

It wasn't great to be honest. I've only felled 3 or 4 trees before, and  they weren't anything like this big. This was 40"+ at the stump, so needed to be cut from both sides. Gob cuts needed some tidying up, back cut wasn't perfect.

It landed where we wanted it though, more practice in time.

More of the same for us today, same site again as the photos from Tuesday. Another couple bopped down to the specified heights.

Same again tomorrow. Sadly much bigger ...

Nice dead willow as a warm up, the other willow has a wood pecker hole about 2mtrs below the ideal anchor and a massive span over a fence and small young oaks got the easy stuff in the afternoon needed my rigging kit to finish up so will be done tomorrow.

Really nice firm to climb for.

What kind of tree is that, Lux?

Which one chap? There’s two in those pics.

One with the burrs and helical form is Sweet chestnut.

The one in the last pic where I’m still up the tree is Horse Chestnut.

First one, i like the helical form as you said. Wood looks good. Will it get milled?
