Nice bit of kit, can't help thinking you're a bit vulnerable there under the grab.

 

Them's heavy buggers, lot of swing. Not tempted to use a chain?

Yeh I know what you mean Mick, we are very very cautious when it comes to the grab near people. Climber stays below whilst the log is grabbed so the climber can't accidently get hit by it. Then he makes the cut. We're also on coms units in the helmets and the tractor drives communicates every single move first so the climber (and team ) is aware. Just a system we have come up with, works for us. In some ways it's not much different than using a crane with large chains swinging near the climber.

 

We have chains that we use but this is a bit to high. Otherwise there would be no lift on the tractor left and will have to slide the log off the stump potentially causing shock load to the boom.
