Reliability, comfort and value.

I have a D40 Navara (11 plate) and it's been pretty disastrous. Into the garage on average every month of my tenure, three RAC recoveries and it's present faults include:

* Terrible clunking/grinding from front right wheel area that the garage acknowledge is a problem, but can't find.

* 4wd fault light on most of the time, and sometimes difficulty shifting between 2h and 4h.

* Noisy front diff in 4wd.

* Intermittent issues with electric window switches not working.

Aside from the faults, one issue that I'd fully appreciated until the other day is relatively limited ground clearance.

Don't get a Navara - they are OK for some towing and they are OK for builders who want a pimp mobile, but they cannot handle proper work. Both the farm managers of the two local estates have them and they are both unreliable. Another tree surgeon chap I know had one, and sold it due to reliability issues.

In addition to this, Nissan UK are a bunch of (insert whatever expletive you want).

Do you have kids? Mine messed up the windows...I think if they are trying to open the windows at the same time as I close them it can mess up the sync or something....they just need resetting with a combination of actions using the switches...only ever had that happen once.

Im surprised at all your issues though. Im on my second and havent had any issues whatsoever.

As for Nissan UK. Never dealt with them direct, all my dealings are through my dealer Marshalls, are are second to none...so good in fact I even persuaded my wife to switch to a Nissan when she bought a new car a couple of years ago.

No kids yet - I suspect the issues might have been caused at some point by windows being left ajar in the rain, but that's something that happens to all work trucks.

I accept that I've been especially unlucky, but stand by my comment that they aren't well made. Nissan UK were always helpful until I started to head down the rejection path, at which point their communication became poor and their attitude unpleasant.

Frustrating, which ever way you look at it.

work has not long gotten a ranger. twin cab thing with top on back. If i were just using it to go between a - b quick with no people or tools etc then it would be ok. Add a trailer even empty and its the most god awful gutless thing. No proper low ratio so reversing off road sucks and generally the driver seat is uncomfy after 20 miles max. rear seats for passengers are horrible.

Oh and whichever idiot decided the screen wash tank should only hold 1.1 litres should be fired immediatly.

Really? mine has, are you sure?

Iv just been on a few car forums, and I can tell you I am shocked that anyone still owns a Nevara. The stories on here are the same as on the forums. So, does anyone on here own a Isuzu rodeo?

Perhaps that's the result of statistics: the Navara (I'm told) is the best selling pickup in the UK. Sell more and you'll almost certainly get more horror stories.

Do the other pickups on the market have similar online fora (forums?!) Maybe the Navara Forum is a victim of its own success; I don't know.

Could this be the famous water-in-the-sensor problem involving the three sensors inserting into the transmission that should be in waterproof jackets but aren't?

* Intermittent issues with electric window switches not working.

Could this be due to the inbuilt process whereby the one press closing stops working after 10 consecutive full cycles? Just needs resetting by the procedure in the handbook if so.

I'm probably barking up the wrong Navara on both counts but just thought I'd try.

I haven't had the pleasure of Nissan UK and I think I'll try to keep it that way!

You can have an alteration done to the navara which will make the engine more reliable something to do with the bearings I believe . I think Theocus off here had this done to his navara ? Don't think they will ever be as reliable as the old D21 . It does not help that Renault do Nissans electrics and some of there diesel engines now .
