Can i join? i got a new one a few mths ago, with all the extras i paid about£26,000 i wont bother you with the minor probs, air con leaks water on the inside of the cab and lots of other small pobs but its done well , its only on its second tran box already and needs a gear box, its a heavey duty Hi cap with under 6000 on the clock strainge thing is i love it, we ran a mog b4 and inbetween going to the dealer we are in and out of jobs and more mobile, we have been abusing it , load it to the max when ever we can but it loves it.

the defenders supposed to be and that was the worst.. there all made under the landrover badge and i cant believe they have the front to churn out such unreliable poorly made rubbish.. and i cant believe how anyone can say they'd rather drive round in and maintain say a 2000yr 110 land rover pick up compared with a hilux.. its a no brainer to me and anyone who has owned both has to sgree

 

I have had both and in my experience a hilux is a mickey mouse toy compared to a defender.

 

have no idea but if you want to tow lotta weight buy a landcruiser.. a hilux will do over 200k miles.. and still drive half reasonably.. will a landrover.. dont think it will..

 

My present landrover has done 176000 miles and drives as well as a new one, and is as reliable as anything jap and ten times stronger built. yes its only rated to tow 3.5 tonnes, but that is plenty enough. Agreed, the lardcruiser will tow ahouse but is full of seats though.

In my opinion a good well maintained landy will serve well,and keep doing it.

I have had a few from series 2 through to my TD5,had a few problems over the years,but I expect that from a motor that gets worked very hard.

Show me another 4wd 3.5t arb truck for under £12000,(2nd hand) with easy maintenance & cheap parts,the dodgy thunderclaps & raging bulls,(not to mention other pretentious names),are designed to impress,not perform in a hard work environment,I don't Think I have seen anything on the road, working,day in &day out with a good sized tipping body other than the landy.

If you need something to get 700kg across a field for 200,000 miles get a hilux . If you try and put 1500kg of chip in the back you will snap the chassis if you are going to abuse it it will cost you a packet. The Landrover can be abused its cheap to rebuild and will handle too much weight better but is inclined to fall to bits however you treat it. The Landrover leaks water some of the engines were dreadful and most of the gearboxes and heaters apart from that they are ok. What you have to remember is that is what all vehicles were like in 1953.

My oldest 130 has 231000 on the clock and still does a good days work when needed, it had 100000 on when we bought it and all its had is a half shaft, radiator and alternator, it's about due a clutch, I think thats been cheap motoring:thumbup1:
