Looking at getting my first land rover

i have owned a few defenders and my family has had nearly every model since the series 2 and found i spent more time keeping up with oil leaks and brake/ clutch seals on the landie than i did driving it. what with getting wet when it rains and everything being seized and rusty (except for the bits oil has leaked on). 3k will buy you a very poor defender. look for chassis and bulkhead rot. the first turbo engines were prone to the cylinder head cracking, later models had problems with the gearbox bearings failing.

japanese trucks are much better value for the same money

Landrovers (Defenders) are a complete enigma, and manage to be a rolling dichotomy. How can something so awsome be so utterly crap at the same time?

Owning a Landrover is like having a HUGE penis - that suffers from constant impotence, incontinence, and occasionaly falls right off.

Just sometimes it all works and you love it for the next 6 months when it dosn`t!!

Interestingly, I've had clients say they think that the moon landings never happened, that there's a Zionist plot to rule the world, and that the neighbour next door spy's on them with a telescope.

Yeah, I get them sorts occasionally too.

If the man wants a landy let him buy one, If we were all sensible no one would buy alfa's or aston's or fererri's or paintings or go to the cinema / pictures or any thing else thats fun.

I got out of my 08 defender the other day and thought "whats thar running down the wing?"...... engine oil. Was I surprised ? no was I bothered? not really. its a landy, it's supposed to leak oil; although I had it fixed since I was'nt paying for it. I used the excuse that none of the jap trucks in my price range can tow 3.5 ton and bought the landy, but to be honest if a hilux would pull 3.5 ton I'd have found another reason, I just love them.
