Top 'em by a third or a half, they'll be fine, Do as the client asks.

:thumbup1:

Just make sure you explain that they will need further attention in the next 5 or so years, other wise they could become dangerous.

If their current hight is the problem, they will want the maintaing at around the new hight anyway so it should not be an issue :001_smile:

I've just done a similar job for a farmer on an over grown wind break, about 30 pops. 50-60ft down to 20, pulled with tractor. Poplars should come back with vigour and act as pollard from then,no probs. I did make sure of safety, ie being aware that pops are brittle, cutting fast and confident, and getting position right should something not go quite right,if that makes sense. I used to live in France and they do have some different ideas with trees generally, but have been cutting them as long as we have. hope all goes well.

Whats the difference???

If the trees are mature they cannot be "properly pollarded", they need to be "topped" first and then when re-cut regularly they will become "pollards"

Or am I missing something????

dont start hama off again ;)

hee hee!. Whilst crown lifting a row of Balsam Poplars in the South of France, a French bloke said to me 'what are you doing up there?...we just fell them!'..not much call for arborists in that neck of the woods obviously!
