Hey guys, Im going to be removing a 17 metre section of privet hedge & replace it with a six foot fence.

This is all fine, the only problem i foresee is getting the posts into where the hedge was, namely the roots.

So my question to anyone who has done this before is- Should i hire a post hole auger or will i be able to dig out a hole among the roots, or should i try something else.

Thanks

that's not the only problem, a hedge that size is likely to have a nest or two, make sure they aren't in use, disturbing a nest in use is an offence under the wildlife and countryside act.

Otherwise dig them out as others have said. Be ready to poison the re growth, privet is a bit of a cockroach when it comes to survival.

Just this week I've installed 19m of fence after ripping out a privet hedge. Roots were handled in half an hour using a minidigger (I'm a big fan of my new toy with back saving hydraulics!)

Anyone know how to upload pics from an iPhone? Laptop is other side of the room and I'd have to wait for it to upload:thumbup1:
