cant say i've ever tried it but the new 201 scabbard clicks on and off. I get fed up off the bar and chain (off mind) catching on me pants and things dangling behind my harness

Might give it a go, but is it not time consuming for what its worth?

For the reason robarb stated I presume. I was reading the manual for the saw and it said the scabbard is designed to stay on the saw in the tree and has two loops to clip onto your harness when you want to take it off. I found it too much faff but it might be useful when passing the saw up the tree or walking up ladders for it catching your keks

Yes, its just more backside covering from stihl IMO. But the new saws do come with full chisel chain which will soon ruin your chainswaw kecks.

Might be best to switch to the old style semi chisel if your not going to use the scabbard.
