We will probably remain in our home for 30 years, but a log home would be one of few options that prompts me to move.

 

Here's some inspiration ... just an upper loft view ....

 

If you ever come to Oregon, check out Camp 18 restaurant east of Seaside, Oregon, along Hy. 26. One of the larger log structures in west Oregon.

 

I keep visualizing it as a home instead of a place to eat.

Living the dream eh. This mortgage free idea sounds great but funnily shortly after we became mortgage free, we bought an industrial unit and that was the end of that dream. If you're ambitious, you always push the envelope. Thats the way it is.

Good luck with this. I still think Ben Laws house on grand designs was the best of all.

The tiled flooring will be a heat sink for under floor heating.

 

You can basically specify anything you like, raise the wall height by two logs, steepen the roof pitch, move that wall over there, wood floor, solid floor.
