Keep dogs on leads!

Why is it so hard for people to keep their hound on a lead when they are about stock?! I drove past a woman and her little lad parked in a field gateway walking their dog in a field full of ewes today (no lambs yet) - dog off the lead and pestering everything that moves. I stopped and went to talk to her, she wouldn't listen and was adamant that she was in the right (No ROW on that land either)

She'll be crying when it gets shot. :001_rolleyes:

Bloody stupid woman. We have 1200 ewes on the estate here and despite the fact that our dog leaves the sheep well alone, we don't go anywhere near the sheep for at least 6 weeks before lambing. As you say, she won't be happy when it's shot.

Trouble is that these irresponsible dog walkers know as much about the country ways as i do about quantum physics, These are town folk moving into the country and i blame the sale of council houses in the villages, which are now full of yuppie types who have watched to many episodes of river cottage.

So when Im out running and theres a person and a dog coming towards me, I stop because im not too keen on dogs of any breed or size.

"Excuse me, please take hold of your dog until I'm passed" (very polite I think)

"Oh he's harmless. Never bit anyone."

"THATS NOT WHAT I ASKED YOU TO DO!!"

I told one guy that if he didnt get hold of his snarling yappy dog Id pick him and his dog up and throw them in the river.

Ive nothing against normal dog owners....

Sunday, hubby and the boys went for a walk with our GSD to a local beauty spot - signs everywhere "keep dogs on leads" - only ours was on a lead- infact our little boy was pushed off the stepping stones into the water by a loose dog running a muck, luckily just filled a wellie - but could have been worse.

rohan gave the owner a stern word, but it goes on deaf ears!
