Yellow Pages and Yell.com

I've finally decided to pull the Yellow pages advert.

It's been on the cards for 2 years, but I've continued to maintain a presence in the book for fear of being left out.

I suggest that if everybody pulls their ads, we'll all save a lot of money and won't be competing with each other any more!

good idea eh?

(and yes they've pissed me off again this year by not delivering their promises)

Me to, i stopped a few years ago  just had the new book through the door and i can't even read it, words are too small. Total wast of money.

All the above comments ring so true with me too.

I abandoned this year - thats the best part of 2k to spend on other things!

The book is now so small that the ads are hard to read, I took a straw poll of my customers and 90+ % of them said they only use YP to keep a wobbly table level.

They find it quicker to go on-line and google 'Tree surgeon Worthing' .

All the YP leads were the east-ender 'owww much' type, and the service from YP was

'poor' to put it politely.

The internet is killing them off and they know it. Thats why they are trying to push Yell.

There may be some mileage in Yell but if you get yourself a website which gets you high up on the google search youre there.

Then you get the phone calls from the web-design pirates offering to get you at the top of the google search.

Why don't they fornicate while travelling and leave us alone?

Rant over - mobile phone switched back on!

i came out this year so too speak !... dont forget the cost of the add is out of profit so too pay for it you have to do a fair bit ie if you make say £100 per job profit and you spend say £1000 on adds you need to do ten jobs to break even

I reckon over the years I have probably spent around 50k with the yellow pages with a return of around £1million+, so yes I'm in total agreement with Skyhuck.:thumbup1:

I know two companies who did pull out of the yellow pages and it certainly didn't do their business any favours whatsoever, so all I would suggest is don't do what they did unless you have enough work through word of mouth etc or have a good advertising strategy.

Unless they do screw up your ad then I don't know why everyone seems to hate YP! You pay x amount and the advert you decide on goes in the book that is posted out to and made available to every uk resident. They have never held a gun to my head when it comes to renewal time.

Some interesting comments there, and a definite majority feeling like me. Thanks for making me feel better.

My argument boils down to the Yell.com ad, which should give me a 15mile radius, plus whatever keywords I have paid for.

I'm not even getting 12miles, which knocks out a major town that I was promised.

All I get is, 'the search facility is working as expected' :banghead:
