Ok, got another big hedge to tackle, lucky me.

Client wants as much as possible to be taken off, as much as a third!

They have been topped before, I was thinking of going just below those points which would be 10ft or so.

Don't want it to look daft but I've stressed it will if you cut it in half!

It's a job for later in the year, after nesting season, plus I don't have the time ATM to do it all at once.

I was thinking a tracked mewp in for a couple days.

British Standards say you should not take any more than 33% out of a tree with in the growing season, so my recommendations would be to reduce them by 1/3rd of the canopy (top of the tree down to the lowest foliage).

People do hit them harder but id stick to BS.

If the previous reduction point is close to this then id take it back to there as you dont really want to have two reduction points in the tree. Firstly coz it makes the job awful for the next person to do it and secondly it will create two week points where the tree may fail.

I hope this helps :thumbup1:

Not sure I would be applying BS to a Leylandi hedge.

Can I not take the bottom third? I can reach that a bit easier

The reduction point in this tree is near the top. Within the top 20%. I'd be going below that considerably.
