A friend of mine has the "Samsung solid" similar to the old rubber nokias but with more modern features. Tested on the gadget show and was considerably better than the JCB phone designed for builders. Not to expensive either about £70.

Don't bother with it and certainly don't pay £70. I paid £50 but they are cheaper than that now. The phone itself is beyond basic and it has a week point - the screen. Mine caved in after a few weeks and rendered useless. I've heard it had all sorts done to it in tests against the JCB but I don't know how it managed to be that good.

Cheap phones are the way forward and don't have on your person if you can help it.

i had a samsung D500 as a backup phone which ended up being my day-to-day phone as was supprisingly tough-dropped from 1stfloor window, dunked in a pint, run over by a landy, only stopped using it as screen got so scratched couldnt see it in sunshine!

could always try leaving your phone in the cab?? thats what i do now:)

i usually manage 2 or 3 a year just replaced N73 now got an iphone and do not hold out for its ruggedness

i always use screen protectors which are a must if you put it in your pocket

when its all scratched peel it off and stick another on

Take out insurance and do not worry about phone is my motto
