some pictures of birds I helped ring last year

It was an amazing opportunity to be able to get this close to them:biggrin:

thats cool, how did you get the sand martin chicks for ringing, did someone have to stick their arm up the burrows? I have done a fair bit of work helping to protect bits of river bank with sandmartins in them round here as there are only a handful of colonies. Dont think anyone has done any ringing up here though,

On the reserve I worked on last year we had an artificial sand martin bank which works quite well. It's made out of breeze blocks with old clay drains used as the entrances. Because it's artificial we had flaps on the inside of the structure that we could go along and take the chicks out quickly ring them and place them back in before the adults notice, this method has proved very successful.

alright not so much a bird but a birds eye view.......:lol:

and a penguin....to bird or not to bird ?

the 2 at the bottom were arguing over a stone which they thought was there egg, but the egg had been taken from them as they have never had any chicks in 7 years, and thought it would be best to hand rear than take a risk of them leaving it.....
