I dont know how long expanding foam has been widely available...at least 20 yrs as I first used it about then....

I have also seen cavity filling as I'm sure many of you will have, at Cambridge botanical gardens....It is concrete in that case....I'm guessing for stability.

Surprisingly unscientific....again I dont know what date such "installations" were created but it would be interesting to find out!!

I have gone back to flush cutting branches, filling cavities with concrete and nailing tin over hollows, it's retro Arboriculture and you'll all be doing it soon.

 

You've got to have sideburns and Hiflex Demin though....

certainly have, that danarm saw on the cover was one of the first saws I ever used no chainbrake and the thread had gone on the air filter cover so it used to rattle about!Seemed like I did nothing but take down ded elms in those days.Makes you feel old. regards keith

Errrr. that Bridgeman book is where i sarted. That's all there was in 1984. Shocking. where is the author now I wonder?
