Queen Wasps in Logstack

I'm not sure if this happens to others too, but I just started taking down a new stack of logs to move inside prior to burning. I found no less than 18 queen wasps hibernating between logs !

 

Easy to deal with outside with the weather cold, but not as much fun when they wake up inside.

HI fly yes mate all winter we had QUEEN WASPS in the house the dogs do not like them :lol:jon

Yep, have been getting a couple in nearly every barrow off the stack.

Plenty in previous years but none this year, the logs were stored indoors and it seems to make a difference

Yeah man, they're cool. Over-wintering in your stack, just having a doze. I have loads too and i just transfere them to a cardboard box in a shed where they can continue snoozing. come the warmth of spring and off they'll go buzzing around, eating bugs and dooing good.

kill them now while they are asleep, otherwise you'll be responsible for thousands more wasps come spring!

we've had loads of them this year, light the wood burner after about 10mins they're flying around half dopey still but soon warm up to full life. I get the vaccum to suck it up, seems easiest thing, while the wife has the preferred method of using the ash shovel to 'swat' it..........not her best moments!

 

Never known them like it before, but we must have had 20 this winter, but less now i've changed wood sheds which was stacked after the first!

Always get loads. The local bee man said that they are not all queens, and some large males will overwinter. Anyway, they are mean buggers when they warm up.

had them here in house after restocking log box in house our dog goes bonkers and eats them coz he,s ard lol

Whilst wasps can be a pain in the butt, they are also pollinaters just like bees and contribute
