441 v 460

Thoughts everyone

 

I am going to buy a new mid sized stihl, either a 441 or a 460 most probably.

 

The 441 is the most up to date design, but is nearly as heavy as a 460, and they both cost about the same.

Whichever i buy will mostly be run with an 18 or 20 inch bar but will need to take up to 25 inch on occasion, until i save up and buy a 660.

Which would you go for?

i run mine with a 25" all the time as standard

yeah 372. oops, I mean 440 - except its now a 441, nearly as heavy as a 460..

460 it is then. I know of guys who occasionally run 32" bars with no trouble and 28" as standard.

 

Old monkey has just bought a new power ported 460 for running a 32" bar I believe...

460/046 is one of the best saws around imo. I have two of them and regularly run them with either 20" or 24" bars skip or fullhouse they will pull those set-ups in any combination no problem. If you can find a dealer around with a 440 still I'd consider that if you're only going to be running a short bar and ocassionally a 25". Just mentioning cause my local dealer has two of the 440's around still.

The 441 badly needs to have the muffler opened up and re-tuned to come up to it's potential. Far too many have died early from excessive heat on this side of the pond.

Ed where do you get your Bar lenghts from?

 

Surely you mean a 25" or 30"
