having said that it all depends on your living costs, dependants etc

yeah, agree, think its very area dependant to what the cost of living is, thus, what a good wage is

Lets face it, none of us are gonna get rich from this trade, yes we will have good days where we can earn top dollar, then there are days where things dont pan out as expected, and theres less money in the pot, better to recieve a wage at all than nowt.

As for tutoring, its not something I would wish to do, just wouldnt have the patience! I think some of the tutors are bloody good and just wish to share their lifetime experiences with newbies, others simply couldnt make the grade in the cut and thrust of industry, on a business level. It does seem to me that a lot of people think that after a couple of years on a saw, they are too good to be on the tools any more, and think its time they went on to instruction, consultancy or become TO's, so we end up with very few "old hands" to pass on tricks of the trade, in the field.

How do you know??

 

Have you observe these these people trying to teach and failing??

 

I think it would be more accurate to say it is said by people who "DON'T TEACH"

 

But its hardly going to be said by someone who does teach, now is it.

In all honesty I have only seen one person who, having failed miserably to instruct a group walked off saying “those who can do and those who can’t teach”.

 

I do know a lot of people who are entirely on top of their jobs who freely admit they wouldn’t know one end of a lesson plan from another.

Ive always fancied going into the training/assesor route when I get a bit older, always enjoyed working with the traniees in my previous job.

For me, I don't care if a climber has 2 weeks experience or 20 years, I will pay what they are worth, and assist them to be productive. A pig headed old climber is more trouble to me than an passionate inexperienced climber.

I got £30 a day to start with. and back then i was prob better worker than the guys that i pay 70 a day to now.

 

I think 50 a day fro someone new is fair. unless they are self employed ..then 70 a day is good. if anyone ever complains to me about how much they get paid..the they can go else where. good luck to them!
