Oak on a house

Interesting job working for a contractor.

Half a rotten Oak had fallen onto this house.

First we set a line over the house, tied off onto an Oak behind, Makeshift SRT'd up onto the steep roof, steel stropped the chimney with spare hitch climber pulleys as rope guides, stripped the brash off, leaving the main stem and main branch resting on the roof.

Luckly the Contractor had a winch on his 4x4, so cut a path through the scrub for him to drive closer. We cradle'd the stem so that it ould lift off flat and not twist, sent a line into a nearby pine into a pulley, down to the base of an oak into another pulley, a mid line bowline was then tied for the winch hook to clip onto.

Then to stop the stem falling off side ways and clipping the roof again (slow winch), clipped a tag line onto the rigging plate at the cradle, into a pulley in another tree and down into a capstan.

Had to tweek the pulley configurations a few times, but worked a treat, stem lifted off the roof, cleared the roof, then slowly controlled side fall into the scrub

Interesting job mate!!

Did you not think the standing half of the Oak was strong enough??

Topping that out and then using it for the winch pulley would have been my first thought.

It was dead mate, the live half had fallen out, well peeled off, leaving a dead stem and another smaller strip that was only about 3inch deep, 9inch across, clinging onto the dead stem. I diddnt want to trust for the forces involved to lift the stem off the roof, so that was straight felled out of the way, the pine was close enough and sound:thumbup1:
