Most importantly, enjoy it. I've been foot locking only recently no ascenders or aids and its still really quick up a line.

im still trying to get my head round certon things but planing to use it along side my drt for a start see how i get on

i got a nice ash to reduce on SAT easy ish job so i might have a play with it then

 

My advice is don't use it along side DRT. It's an entirely different way of climbing.

I went back to DRT for a small Cedar dismantle two weeks ago, it was horrible. So tiring.

The techniques required are totally different in terms of body position and stance. I found that SRT stance won't work with DRT gear and vise-versa.

 

Congrats on getting one. Only a week after starting with it you'll be so happy.

I think that you wouldn't use a carab/revoler as it will side load, especially on larger stems... just my thoughts

Just read some of the other posts & it dose seem that a malion would do the trick.

I'm thinking that it may have to be a fair large one to get the same bend radius properties as the ring in Ians set up (not sure on the dimensions)

Any thoughts on this please?

The bend radius is my concern too as a large Maillon is still quite small.

What about a large shackle? I can't think of any other pieces of hardware.

This thread is a beast! No idea where I was when I last read it/posted but it just keeps evolving. Had to do some cobra today, and had to keep nipping down to get stuff I'd forgot. Damn I love srt climbing- soooo simple and efficient.

No big deal in using it, just surprised that its necessary. I have been choking an access line with a butterlfy for yours. Agreed, I dont then climb on that access line all day but it still gets installed and removed in the same way, and not noticed any excess wear on it.

 

Your saying that the butterfly wears the rope whe nyou retrieve it from the tree? And this is more wear than the friction hitch causes while climbing around the tree all day?

 

Hey rupe, took ages to find this! Yeah I part wore through a tachyon where the rope was running through it. I reckon it was because it was focused on just one sole point and not spread around the whole of the cover. It was also through a couple of redirects so quite a bit of force was being generated pulling it through. Hope that explains why bro:)

I would stick another krab in there and attach the tether of the WR to it.

Ditto Rich, in the top hole of the HC.

 

Also, a removable pin (£15) just gives you so many more options (well, SRT or Ddrt!) it is well worth getting one.
