Rope Wrench feedback

Recommended Posts

yeah, try a longer cord. it specifically says not to do that in the instructions, i think it can be pretty dangerous!

did yours not come with a cord? :001_smile:

I had a little play with my RW today and found out that the cord supplied from HB is way too short, had to add 2 krabs for it to work, gonna make new cord up at least twice the length. The original cord is about 21 cm from the attatchment point on RW, new one will have to be about 40 cm. Does that sound about right ?

I'd have to measure mine but 40cm sounds about right if it's double fisherman together and girth hitched at both ends.

I think you have to play around with tether length depending on your rope and hitch cord type and hitch knot type.

I stand to be corrected though as mine worked perfectly first time and I have not changed it.

What does the krab with the hitch clip into to stop the climbing line slipping?

By having the CS in the system must mean you have to isolate the limb. One of the reasons I use SRT is so I don't have to do that! Big shot out, rope in tie off, job done!!

Just had another look, its not a hitch.

Hey Deer Man its an alpine butterfly with a krab through, krab as back up in case the knot pulls through.

I usually throw as high as i can from the ground, tie one end off at the base and ascend to that point with LOTS alone or with a hand ascender above all that with a foot loop for my left foot if the rope is in mid air.

Once i reach that point, i lanyard in ,get the groundie to untie the base and if it isnt a dismantle i would select my TIP as per DRT and set up the CS system previously pictured.

I like the lines running through the tree as opposed to one side of my life line tied to the base..

Scarfed off a large Poplar scaffold branch when i first got the wrench, tied off to the base. The leader compressed on the foliage end and like a spring pushed the butt end back towards the trunk where it missed my base tie by about an inch.

:blushing:

The other reason i started using this system was quite often im pruning and i wanted it retrievable.

Girth hitch on the RW and DMM oval clipped into the top hole of a Hitchclimber worked with HB cord here.

I'll have a measure tomorrow and let you know, if I get a chance.

Cool, Iv'e made up a new tether tonight, you must have had the deluxe tether, only one krab to make it work

What is the shortest tether in use? (how short is a piece of string? lol)
