I got a cup of tea the other day with no sugar, even though I'd clearly spec'd 2 sugars!

had to take an old beech down once that was 30' from a bungalow fence, we took most of the weight out of the top one afternoon and was going to drop it the next day, thats night wind picked up and the tree split landing next to his fence.

When I got there the fence was down and he wanted to claim off my insurance! it was only later that day I seen a friend of mine who lived near and siad he seen the fence blow down before the tree feel. The crook even threw branches on top of the fence.

He got in touch with the agent I was doing the work for and they forced the insurance to pay up just to save a load of hassle, that cost me £200 when I worked hard trying to make a living. The old bastard is dead now & good enough for him.

 

Another job was a small one, ask how much for cash so I dropped it a little then had to chase the guy for a week to pay up then he paid by cheque, you live and learn.

Now if they dont like the price they can do it themselves.

Nothing much so far, just a doctor who asked for tree work and then asked us to "keep the noise down"!!

 

Anyone who trys to get away without paying has all the waste we removed free of charge dumped back on their drive

I have (without being asked) received Earl Grey from some people, when I spat it onto the ground immediately they understood the gravity of the mistake.

always get "can you justs"? i reply with,,,if your carpet fitter came to fit your bedroom carpet for £200 say? would you expect your living room done for free? no ,,,,so dont take the p..s,,,,,they usally pay extra,,,unless of course the bacon butty`s come out,,

Its not all bad.

We have just finished a 4 day over mature lawson hedge felling job.

A neighbour gave us permission to work from his garden but asked use carefull about his wire mesh fence.

Second morning, one of my team (old Rab) dropped a tree that twisted and caught the fence, breaking a wire and losing all its tension.

The owner came out and from his face I thought he was going to explode.

And yet...

In fact, he was over the moon with our work.

It was the first time in 10years he had seen the morning sun on his garden.

He shook Rabs hand and later presented us with a bottle of very good Bordeaux for lunch.

Rab then wondered if we dropped one on his roof if he would feed us too!

(1)Telling us in the contract we had to burn on the lakeside/winch from the roadside as no machines allowed as drinking waters then letting a second firm take a Land Rover and chipping machine down to the edge. When we complained about double standards made us wait 3 months to be paid.

 

(2)Height reduce a large evergreen hedge and the woman had planted new flowers at the base over the weekend. Seen that before so the large barrels appeared and covered them until the work done. Took of the trees nearest to the house down to ground level. Refused to agreed payment and said wanted stumps removed. So as it was lunchtime we blocked the drive and refused to move. Police were called and said would charge the woman with breach of the peace and wasting Police time unless we were paid in full. Paid in cash!!
