What is the difference between a tree surgeon and an arborist...

Tree surgeon/arborist is a tree climber, pruning, felling, doing the work, arse out of their pants kind of guy...

Arboriculturalist is more cerebral, diagnosing, reporting, staying dry and warm + leather patches on the elbows of their jacket kind of guy...

I find i always have my inspector Dendro pipe on the go when i rock this look.

i see the point but it is pointless........i know where you are coming from but you were lost to start with......

There is no true boundary between the terms, both are correct, there is no set level you must achieve to be one above the other, unlike medical surgeons etc. Its true it bugs me when some one who has just got their first climbing kit and ticket advertises as and Arboriculturalist (i think i spelt that right) but there is nothing wrong with doing so. What about qualified Arborist? with a qualification in Arboriculture? you cant say you are a qualified arborist with only a tree climbing ticket surely? you would be a qualified tree climber? anyway....it matters not what you say you are but what you are capable of doing and the level of professionalism you carry it out at......also i dont say im a Arboriculturalist to impress the ladies......i tell em i'm a dolphin trainer at sea world.

I Saw a transit that looked characteristically like a rogue traders van, with branches on the back, and in huge letters down the sides it had tree surveyor on it.

I couldnt work out if it was the driver or ten year old son in the passenger seat that was surveying, but they were specialists too!!!!

yes it is! and thats why i asked the question, because if one asks a question, and also states the answer to that question, there really is nothing to debate!

I thought you would have appreciated the sarcasm?

Sarcasm is hard to read on a forum - especially given the original poster has only made 3 previous posts.

Discussion often starts with someone stating their view anyway.

The reason I ask, I teach a course, a one year practically based entry level course designed to put lads out there that can work, under supervision, safely and hopefully efficiently (with varying degress of success) I tell them aren't arborists yet, so perhaps we should say we are training tree surgeons.

I have only made three posts because no matter how often I log on, everytime I cahnge a page I get unlogged..
