Snapping chains - how common?

As in the title really. I keep seeing warnings about only using stihl / husky / Oregon chains because of the damage a snapped chain can cause. Do cheap eBay chains snap more?

ive never used a cheap ebay chain, nor understand why anyone would want to.

 

Have had dozens of chains snap over the years with no real incident. The worst that happened was with an 020, the tail end just nicked my forearm on its way round. I'd be interested to hear if anyones done worse?

only chains that have ever snapped are ones i made up.

I soon got fed up with making my own and went back to buying them

I had two snap in fairly quick succession during the intense cold last winter. Apparently due to metal being more brittle at very low temperatures.

 

Other than that, I think I've only ever had two other chains snap, one milling and one other.

ms200t chains ,not sure why .got about 5, that need repairing ,they were all made up by the same stihl dealer ,all 36 of them ,so got a few spares

Repeatedly snapping chains on a saw is usually a sign of a worn sprocket,common on ms200s

cheap chains stretch more and do not cut as well or keep sharp as long.

They are not as good

snapped them regularly when constant brashing for harvester, just the brashing down onto hard dry outside branches all the time, 2 1/2 weeks max out of a chain. backend of links seemed to wear out quicker

Have had a lot of Stihl chain snap on the drive links over the years all ways around the hole...mostly on 020's a few on 3/8... Ripped a few chain catchers off and some have hit me never any damage though..
