Aquired a makita rbc421l strimmer, 2011, any idea what mix? Assuming it'll be 50:1.

Yup..40 to 50.1 should be fine depending on your preference . Me...45.1

Heya all, got a 261 on the bench, owned it for 4 years and not touched it. its developed a hard starting (and smokey when it does start) issue, I've changed the plug and cleaned the filter, no change... makes a rattle when it does run and has started cutting out on tickover. still makes good power when in the cut/revs up fine etc. makes a rattling noise from the top end (i think, might be imagining it?)

Ive pulled the head off and theres a fair bit of play in the top end. very slight side to side play in the conrod...

what sort of play should i be looking for in a 261? i think im going to start from there and see what happens.

the bore and piston look great with no pick up or anything like that, so am keen to keep it going.

thanks !

You should have no play in either the small or big end ( up and down ), you should have end float on both big end and small end ( side ways movement ) tis is quite normal.
