What's on your bench today?

Nearly had a couple saws on my bench earlier today. Couldn't work out why my husky 372 would fire up on choke run for a bit, smoke like a bonfire, and then die. Plus my groundys 461 was quite smokey.

To cut a long story short someone had mixed five litres of diesel instead of petrol.... Emptied saws out back into the drum the diesel had come from filled with new petrol and it fired up fine and ran well all day.

The 460 ran ok for nearly a whole tank of diesel😂

Seen that on one I had just repaired, the guy wasn't too happy as the saw was expelling smoke and something like paraffin. I put in fresh fuel and bingo, another fix:thumbup:

So I found why the old 150 was rattling today! ImageUploadedByArbtalk1454702057.495913.jpg.166be2b168684ba4b75eec5ea0ad83e6.jpg

At a guess the holes top and bottom of the crank shaft are the cylinder mounting bolts?

They are both stripped. Aluminium paste on each bolt. The upper one had snapped off in it's mounting. The upper is connected to the earth wire, which would explain why it wouldn't shut down.

Seen this before?

It's been dropped a couple of times, which I figure is the cause.

Seen it before, the self tapping screws used today in modern machines are a bit micky mouse compared to the threaded ones used in the earlier generation of saws.

In reality, these self tappers saves the manufacturers having to thread the casings, just grill pilot holes and bingo - cheap fixings but more fragile as I am guessing the screws are a little harder:thumbdown:

Drilling the screws out is a sod, good luck with that!

Only one screw to drill. Bottom one is just loose.

It's either gonna be a scrapper of get it fixed, depending on cost.

I know it's a difficult question, but could you estimate how much you'd charge to sort out the mounts? Maybe with the usual tach and checks? I understand it would strictly be an " estimate"!
