Hi all,

 

I have a Stihl 180 with only one adjuster screw on the carb, is it possible to fit a fully adjustable carb and if so what saw's carb will fit?

 

I have an ms210 carb on mine. Fits fine but the throttle linkage needs bending a bit for it to reach wot. It'll also need the two extra holes drilling obviously...

 

Its a big improvement both in its adjustability and it'll have a bit more go.

Why will it have more go? If the Venturi is larger you'll have to richen the mix. The only things that'll give more power are a muffler mod and portwork

But with just the carb swap it cut faster, I timed it, same bar and chain.

I think the tuneability with the 210 carb allows it to run just right, the 180 carb does not.

 

I've ported and exhaust-modded mine as well, but there was measurable gain with just the carb swap.

That's probably closer to the truth, though I'm surprised you got much gains from a 180!

Just put a new fuel line on my oldest work saw today, a 394XP.

 

Though this saw looks old and thrashed, it still runs nice and crisp with loads of low end torque.

I've been doing up a 394xp that I got in a auction job lot, can't wait to have her running a 36" bar

 

Ive rebuilt the carb and fitted new gaskets and fuel lines but i can't get her running. The replacement fuel line is transparent and there's a air bubble just before it meets the carb. I've tried pouring fuel in the carb to remove the bubble, but then after I've put her back together,tried starting her it's back to square one, very annoying.

 

Anyone got any ideas?

Steve, I just bought new fuel lines for my 365's and 394, which were all identical, black squiggly pig tail lines.

 

Getting the 394 to fire was a pita, but a few drops of mix down the spark plug hole got it to fire up.

 

Good luck with yours mate, they're truly great saws!

A circlip has come out at some stage and scored the transfer side, doesn't look too hot to me:thumbdown:

 

If ya ask me - it looks like it was put together without circlips in the first place...
