Possibly someone has offered to cut it up for £20 if they can take the wood. So he thought go one better and keep the wood aswell.

By the time you have got rid of the brash, used fuel, travelled etc it is more than just thewages for an hour and a half or two hours of saw work.

 

I'd go with the recommendations for telling him to burn the brash (it'll be nice and dried out by bonfire night :-) ) and charge about £75-80.
