Stihl recommended bar length USA vs UK

Evening all,

Can anyone explain to me why Stihl in the UK are more conservative with bar length recommendations than Stihl USA, i.e. MS 362 max recommended bar in the UK is 20", whereas the USA website recommends up to 25"?

Thanks in advance and apologies if it's been covered elsewhere, I didn't manage to find it...

Cheers,

Andrew

Not sure thats the case any more Tom, the US saws are being strangled by EPA emissions regs too.

Certainly more saw modding going on, but that doesnt account for Stihl recommendations.

As for the trees being less hard, it is true there are a lot more and a lot bigger softwoods, especially on the west coast.

I reckon it's a cheap selling trick, similar to all the crappy 35cc saws you can buy here with 16" or even 18" bars on. Unknowing people buy them as "surely bigger is better?".

As for difference in exhaust/power they'll probably have less power from the same saw if anything as their petrol is of a much lower grade.
