  • 1 year later...

Used to do a garden with it, glyphosate it, couple of weeks later remove and burn the dead stuff and glyphosate the regrowth, if you do it soon, you should get a few treatments in before it goes dormant, and it'll weaken it enough to kill it outright

I've got a customer with a small patch of it approx 3 m x 2m started out in the hedge (he's still convinced his neighbour bought it in on his hedgecutter) was up there topping on monday, its took about 2 years and cost him around £2k to eradicate it, it has also ended up losing 3-4 metres of mature hawthorn hedge due to the herbicide used to kill it :001_cool:

It takes a few goes of herbicide and removing new growth, but after a couple of years it will be clear. An NPTC licence is easy to get and then you're able to carry out the work..

If it's really bad, or affecting a large area then removal of the soil is sometimes needed.

Though it's not a notifiable weed, it is worth keeping an accurate record or what you're doing to get rid of it just in case the council or environment agency ask.
