Hows the log sales going now

First proper frost here yesterday and 3 orders! Got my flyers done too so will start delivering those once ive done these loads tonight. People say they are getting down what they had left from last year so sales will increase as more people get burning! Hope everyone else picks up asap!!!

Firewood customers are very fickle. The estate next to me had a lot of customers in my village and nearby. This year they have increased the price of their 2 cube full load by 30.00 to 100.00 mainly hardwood nice and dry. I have had 5 calls over the last couple of days by people shocked by the price!

I've seen that red and blue transit about, do you know where he is based ?

 

How he can do a transit load for £100 is beyond me, i followed him a few weeks ago he had a heaped load on at the time and the logs looked good quality.

We offer die hard "hardwood" people a free no obligation net of softwood logs as an alternative, works well as 95% of people are usually happy to buy them afterwards. I suggest you try that next time someone calls up asking specifically for hardwood....

 

We advertise that on the web site, (try a bag for free) I am suprised that very few people take me up on it, you are right, once people try soft wood they are suprised how much they like it. The problem is when they dont use the stove controls right and burn it too fast, then they still think hardwood is better!(but not cheaper) ours stays in 24/7 on S/W no problems, and is clean etc.

I get bored explaing our costs with the H/W to shocked customers, our price is middle of range round here, the cheaper ones are often 'green', but not always, so folks take a chance, I think a lot of bagged stuff now has come from E.Europe on containers.

When I work it out, I make better profit on S/W any day, Hard wood is HARD WORK in every way.

The family has been doing it for a fair few years but me and the wife have relocated to the fylde coast to setup on our own. Even though its our first year with no existing customer base we are averaging 12 cm3 a week of soft wood and to be fair its not even cold yet. It amazes me how many people in my area are either ripping out gas fires or having stoves put in!! I approached the local self proclaimed fireplace superstore to try and work out a deal but they already have something put in place. I find the softwood is good to handle and very economic which suits first time log buyers and the down right tight but ill be stocking hardwood next year for the people who know better.

Tell me about it, had a guy call tonight "what wood it it?" I say "ash & elm, 2 yrs old very dry, burns a treat!" that a burn cold! WTF! I said "well would you like to come and put your hand near my Rayburn (was reading 550 F at the time) and see how cold you think it is? Mmm he says, "how much then?" £95 a m3 I say, "stuff that I can get it from a bloke £60 a tranny load!" ok bye then! I know the bloke selling £60 a load and he's packing up after Xmas "cos there's no money in this game!?"

 

Back to the OP not to bad, getting a few loads out a week and the Xmas orders are starting to come in now for Dec.
