No what you mean, went to a friends recently for dinner, while we were there he was keen to show off his new log burner & had picked up a net of softwood from a garage on his way home rather than wait for the load I was delivering next day. Honestly heaver than a lump of oak and wetter than an otters pocket! Certainly not fit for purpose!

Was chatting to a coal man I deal with today and he's been told trading standards are now pushing for log nets to be sold by weight i.e 10kg 25kg etc! A; anyone else heard this? B; how the hell will that work? Weigh a net when you fill it, it will be x weight then month later same net will be y weight! Looks like you would only be able to net them at point of sale?

Cheers for the replies guys! Seems my figures are not to far out then (makes a change!!!) still not sure round wood is the way to go in terms of end results, just like the fact supply is a little more controllable etc? Sandbach sticks what size nets are you filling?

Agreed! Paid £35 a cm for some large ash, been down 12 months already to good stuff. All split into 4' billets then through the saw bench or log swift, no real hard work with it really & loads of logs out of it!

My mate bought a Oxdale machine resently, which I used for from new while my machine was in dry dock! It's ok as a hobby machine but build quality is pretty poor. Not a machine built to last by any means, but it all depends on how much you aim to use it I guess? Like most things in life you get what you pay for! Oh and he didn't get a tct blade, big mistake! Lost it's edge very quickly resulting in belts slipping far to easily even after tightening. It won't take long to spend more on sharpening than the cost of the tct option!

Im looking for a little help!? I'm trying to work out roughly how many 40x50 or 45x60 nets (stacked or loose filled) you can get from a meter of roundwood. I've got figures going round and round on paper using guesstimates etc. But thought there maybe someone on here that may be able to shed a little more light on the subject? I'm using joinery waist at the mo, looking to switch to roundwood larch/pop etc. Thanks in advance. Andrew.

We tend to use between 1 & 2 barrows a day (depends if the wife's home!) the way I look at it is year on year there's probably no real saving over oil/gas but my house is alway warm (probably to warm) where as if I use the oil boiler the house is only warmed at set times morning/eve and being an old drafty house bloody freezing the rest of the time.

Parish mags are by far the best bet round here, my local ones this year worked out on average £1000 orders taken from new customers per £20 spent per month per ad. I always make a point of asking any new inquiries how they came to call me, this info is then added to my accounts software so year on year I can see what works in which area of trading and relative cost.

No chance! once signed its a done deal and there will be no going back cap in hand. They'd be hard pushed to retract any offer already on the table because legal advice was taken before signing, in most cases that's a legal requirement anyway. Legal advice will cost very little if anything and could save you £££. Don't sell out easily, that would be a huge mistake and one you may live to regret, all for the sake of an hour with a good solicitor.

Forgot to say, if you have trouble getting the firm yo pay for a solicitor, check with you bank or home insurance provider, most offer legal cover with the policy or account.

Good advice above! I was in a similar position a few years back, was offered what seemed like a good deal (a lump sum cash payment) until I had a employment solicitor look it over. As said above the company are obliged to pay the fee for this before you sign anything! Turns out the offer was nothing like what I was owed, so the agreement had to be rewritten before I'd sign. The slightly satisfying thing for me was they had paid a lot of money to some big London law firm to get the agreement drawn up & my solicitor pulled it apart in 5 minutes!!! Don't sign anything without having it checked first!, hope all works out.

Was clearing an old windblown chestnut, all grown in with stingers & brambles back last summer and stumbled on a nest (literally) thought I could escape by running & jumping in the tractor only to find most of the swarm had made it in there with me as I shut the cab door! got stung alot!!! Anyway back to the op, loads in my wood pile this year, but they're yet to make it to the house.

Agreed, sales of all chainsaws should be restricted not just top hands. At very least the B&Q type sales should be complete kits i.e saw/PPE & some sort of safety/maintainace/operation DVD. May save a leg or three!

I may have done the seller a mis-justice in this case, now having looked at the description properly I see it's cash on collection. But I'm sure that same photo was used for a machine on the I.O.W not long ago. Must be going mad!!! The scam is to advertise (useing a hacked or new eBay account) a machine using the details/photos of previous genuine machines, normaly at a bargin price. It's sold as delivery only and pay via PayPal. Some poor soul buys it, pays the money and what's for delivery of a machine thats never going to arrive! Meanwhile the seller draws the money from PayPal and disappears in to thin air leaving the buyer having to try and claim the money back through there PayPal or credit card!

The same machine was being sold from the I.O.W a few weeks ago! Tis a scam!!! Oh and also never come across said make of machine before.

No question it's as doggy as they come! Was listed the other day, didn't look right then or now. Mind you it's a nice thought getting that for £2700!
