There is little hope for those who buy fire wood, when those who sell it are so ill informed.

All wood burns fine once dry, some dries easily and some is harder to get dry, but once dry, weight for weight its pretty much all the same calorific value.

So if there was 400kg of ash at20% or 400kg of laylandi at 20% which would you choose just because some one has a different opinion to you does not mean there misinformed.

The old argument of all wood will burn when dry is true no arguments there yes they burn softwood on the continent no argument there but there is good firewood and not so good firewood. If some one is paying good money for a load of logs they want good firewood. I have a good name locally for selling good dry hardwood yes I am expensive but it's all premium wood. People will not buy softwood because when they have there 2k log burners there told by the manufacturer not to burn softwood.

Doesn't that depend on the price of them ?

I go through a fair bit a year of Leylandii on my own fire, always sweep the chimney every year without any problems, I am on stuff that has been seasoned for 2 years and spent the last year in the log store and will continue to use it, throws out decent heat

Very true, but if I was to sell Laylandi there would be a large difference in price compared to the softwood I sell. Its one way of competing with the cheap firewood sellers though. :001_smile:

People looking for slow burning logs have not sussed out how to work their stove or have a cheap stove which wont throttle down. Everything bone dry burns well on my stove.

HI STEVE i think cheap stove are not the way to go mate as like you said you throttle them back SO THEY JUST EAT THE WOOD MATE so buy good stove thats the KEY TO IT OR THEY EAT THE WOOD SO PAY FOR IT IN THE END :001_huh:THANKS JON

I agree but I will not be told it's good firewood by someone that should know better. It's wood it will burn but of all the wood out there it would be the last on most peoples list.

I love it, burns well, I have my chimney swept every year and the sweep says what a clean chimney I have. As we say time and time again you can burn anything if its dry. I sell mixed loads of softwood, it's got everything and its great stuff.

Burning leyllandi tonight, it's ace

As you can see I'm not the only one who thinks Laylandi is perfectly good fire wood.

Sure its not Beech or Ash, but it burns well and produces good heat, bon-firing it seems very wasteful to me.
