if I invoice the job and I arrange for it to be done my PL covers it, regardless of whether they are subies or cards in.

yep, thats how I see it as well. We should stop saying subbies! A freelance climber is not a subbie.

I have my own small bussiness and IT can sub-contract work from other firms. That is subbie work.

As for getting the trees no other bugger wants, well most clever firms tell the freelancer that so that they rush on up the tree and get it done. Telling them they are the only one brave and clever enough is a good way of getting your moneys worth. Then they go home thinking they are the mutts nutts and everyones happy.

Carefull with those egos you freelancer lot, its actually the bosses that are being clever!

The tax man recognises freelancers as labour only sub contractors. They have rules about how much work they are allowed to do for any single company.

If you take the entire job on those rules do not apply. It is intended to stop employers using subbies rather than taking them on full time.

I got a nice quote from Aviva Insurance Limited

(trading as Norwich Union) today, £460 which I though was quite good.

I don't understand how people can compare PL quotes without giving turnover :confused1:

Mine is dependent on turnover and if my estimate for the year is out I pay more or get some back.

I like that a lot ...the same is true in reverse when your employed as well though ,"no theres no bonus today!"the boss says for the 120ft lombardy that he had in for 3 days and you did in one becouse he told you it was in for a day, maybe the reason why people go free lance once they have worked this out,if they dont burn them selves out first that is!
