How are you supposed to compete as a subbie?

This is partly a question and partly getting something of my chest, but how the hell as a subbie do you compete? In my relatively short time doing it I've worked with some good lads and met people who have become good friends. But I've also had the pleasure of working with people who lie to get the work, like the guy who apparently has a chipper, but it's always somewhere else! Im not going into his chainsaw work!! A guy working as a supervisor who has as much experience as my dog. I know two "climbers" who never climb. It really irritates me that these people have jobs that could be filled by someone "normal"!

I think the situation is made worse with the ease of getting saw tickets and it'll probably get worse too.

So any suggestions?

you either subbie and put up with all the issues, or get the work for yourself on your terms, the way you want to do it.there s been loads of moaning about how unfair being a subcontractor is,if people aint happy there are hundreds of new blokes fresh out of college champing at the bit for any work going.

John, I'm already on that one mate there's no way I'm subbing forever!

Your point about the colleges is exactly my point, how many actually are interested in it and how many just see it as an easy way to well paid work.

I know what my work standard is like people I've worked for are always happy with my work I've no problem there.

I wish they were my competition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They sound useless and easy to beat!!!!

It the skilled professional firms that I worry about!!!

Don't get me wrong I'm in work and have been told it's 12 months work too so I've no problem there, it's not the work I want to be doing but there's not much option at the minute.

they are useless but seem to talk the talk etc. That seems to count for more.

in my, albiet extrmeely limited experience talking to the talk seems to get bullshitters everywhere. As once they're in eveyrone is too polite to bring mention that they're not backing it up with walking the walk, So if your half decent get used to telling people, I reckon!
