Cordless drills, opinions?

The drill manufacturers are moving onto brushless motors now and using new technology to extend battery life so it might be worth waiting and the price of the present drills should come down when the new ones are being pushed more.

I am doing this now with Metabo stuff as they are coming out with brushless motors and new battery technology . The 4ah batteries that were state of the art a couple of years back are now within my reach and they and the old brushed motor tools are more than good enough for me .

Metabo have a policy of backwards and forwards compatibility with their 18v range so should be future proof in that way . With a few batteries gathered up from clearance offers , the bare tools can be had for around £100 for drills , grinders , etc. . This is my plan anyway :).

You wont go wrong with Makita 18v Jon We use our drills every day and they get a lot of work. Only trouble has been gear selectors. Dewalt run a bit fast and the battery doesn't last long. Bosch reasonable. Ryobi rubbish now. Erbra doesn't last.

Just bought a 18v from b&q. DIY range battery but seems fine. They do a pro range to fit other tools but unless you need that its extra money. Depends on how much you use it.

My last makita impact driver died a while ago, 5 years of hard work, never failed once. (apart from this one last time when it fell off the roof)

It's replacement, the very same model is not as good. Its made in China, the old one in Britain, the rubbery bits are tearing already (still mainly intact on old one) and it feels less solid overall.

I'll be looking elsewhere next time.
