Yea its great. Not something you get to do often. Although i did one yesterday. Never used a jack to put a tree over before was great.

I recon if it was all healthy 30-40 tonne. Obviously it was quite dead so i figure around about 20.

Big beech fell today 138ish DBH.

Had a pull line out to the tractor as a back up, Had 2 holding wedges 2 high lifts and a 12 tonne bottle jack in the back to lift it over.

 

Fair play Brushcutter, some size butt in her. Enjoyed the falling sequence of shots.

Was wondering what high lifts are?

I have never seen anyone using a bottle jack before for felling purposes, do you have any pictures of how and where exactly on the back that was inserted (presumably closer to that big limb that was sticking out the back end above you there)?

Nice, I think you did the right thing with a high but a small face cut especially with the state the tree appears to be in, all the strength is in the buttresses and I have learned, nearly to my detriment, that cutting into the buttresses is not a good idea.

1st pick shows a hi lift wedge used as a back up to the jack and the outher 2 hopefaly show how the jack is seated in the cut.

Love the falling sequence, i never get shots to work so well.

I agree with the big stump small gob on a suspect tree as you just dont wont to finde out too late that you have just removed all the sound holding wood and are left with mush.
